When is an electrical problem an emergency?
Burning smells, smoke, sparking outlets, buzzing panels, or outlets and switches that are hot to touch are emergencies. Turn off power at the main breaker if it's safe to reach, keep everyone away, and call 911 if there's smoke or fire.

Ask for the contractor's license number and look it up on verify.tn.gov, the State of Tennessee's license search, before work starts. Ask for proof of insurance too.

Usually an overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance, or a wiring fault. If unplugging things doesn't fix it, call an electrician rather than resetting it again and again.
